Now that you have the motivation to pick up the guitar and give it a go, here is a checklist to get you a 100% ready for your musical journey. This guide will help you access all of the things you will need to start playing the guitar.
It really goes without saying, but before you begin playing the guitar, you’re going to need to have access to a guitar of your own. If you are taking one of our online courses (which can be found here), this is
essential as it will enable you to put what you are learning into practise, which is the best way to learn an instrument. Having your own guitar will allow for a more in-depth learning experience, which can be easily tailored for your needs like considerations in guitar size, tone, playability etc.
We do understand that for some, the cost of purchasing both guitar lessons and an instrument may not be within your budget, however, to bring down the cost of purchase, we would advise picking a guitar designed for beginners from a trusted and well known guitar company, such as a Yamaha F280 Acoustic Guitar, which can be found on Flipkart for ₹7490, or a Fender Squier Bullet Strat for ₹13,900.
There are also plenty of local guitar shops in and around Bangalore who will sell high quality guitars at a discount, those of which include Music House, which is a half hour drive from our academy, and Rooster Guitars, which is about 15 minutes away by car. There are few shops facilitating home deliveries as well.
Along with your guitar you will need some accessories, which will include an amplifier if you are playing electric guitar, a ¼ inch guitar cable to plug your guitar into your amp, a guitar strap to hold the guitar close to your body if you’re standing up to play, a guitar tuner, to ensure that the guitar is in tune and a guitar plectrum, also known as a pick, which is a small piece of plastic used to pluck guitar strings. Again, all of these accessories can be found on Flipkart or other similar online retailers. And finally, you will need TIME & MINDSET to learn the guitar. Unfortunately, you can’t learn to play the guitar overnight, otherwise everyone would do it. To gain mastery at anything, you need to be prepared to set aside a portion of your spare time and use it improving your playing ability.
